Alfred Russell Wallace in
the 19th century marked the transition region flora and fauna that exist in the
West and East Indonesia with the name of Wallace Line.
This line serves as the
boundary of West Nusa Tenggara that includes the island of Lombok and
Sumbawa. In the northern part of West Nusa Tenggara territory is mountainous
and covered by dense tall trees and shrubs.
While in the south, the
region arid and filled meadows. West Nusa Tenggara has no mammals Asia, but has
marsupials, lizards, cockatoos and parrots.
The difference becomes more
apparent in more Eastern part, where the dry season is longer, sago and corn

HISTORY
Not many people know about
the general history of West Nusa Tenggara. During the 17th century the Dutch
occupation of the region. West Nusa Tenggara people still live like their
ancestors with fishing and farming. Nusa Tenggara Barat became famous when
Komodo Island and its surroundings began much visited. West Nusa Tenggara is
currently known as an exotic place to tour, especially Lombok and Komodo
Island.
On the island of Lombok,
Sasak Empire controlled this region up to the Bali and Lombok Makassar attack.
Mid 18th century, the Royal Bali ruled this region, while the Netherlands hang
of this region in the 19th century.
After the independence of
Indonesia, Lombok Sasak nobles dominated by mostly Muslim and Hindu Balinese
people.
CULINARY
You can easily find seafood
in West Nusa Tenggara as well as Western food is widely available here. Food
Nusa Tenggara Barat, especially Lombok (Sasak) usually spicy food. Freshwater
fish is also one of the favorite foods here, try the sweet and sour carp when
you take a walk around this place.
One of the foods that must
be sampled is taliwang chicken, spinach and also plecing beberuk very spicy
sauce made of peppers, tomatoes and eggplant. Although the taste is very spicy,
but it can become addictive because it was very enjoyable.
SOCIETY AND CULTURE
Lombok is dominated by the
Sasak and Balinese, Javanese, but can also be found in West Nusa Tenggara, as
well as Arab, Bugis and Chinese. Most of the Sasak people are the Muslims who
have the value of courtesy that must be observed by tourists who want to visit
it.
